Hungarian Society of Human Genetics and Genomics held its 15th congress, held in Pécs

This year the Hungarian Society of Human Genetics and Genomics held its 15th congress, held in Pécs from March 20-22, 2025. This year, for the first time, the Hungarian Centre for Genomics and Bioinformatics of the Szentágothai Research Centre of the University of Pécs was a sponsor. Our colleagues, Márton Tompa and Dániel Schmalz, represented the Hungarian Genomics and Bioinformatics Center at the poster session of the event.

Márton Tompa presented his scientific work titled “The Advantages and Challenges of ACGS Guidelines in Diagnostic Genetic Variant Interpretation.” The poster showcased the benefits and challenges of applying ACGS guidelines, highlighting the importance of standardized evaluation methods and opportunities to improve diagnostic accuracy.

Dániel Schmalz presented his scientific work titled „The significance of the TMPRSS2::ERG gene fusion in lung cancer”. This research was made possible through the collaboration of the Institute of Pathology at the Faculty of General Medicine, University of Pécs, and the 1st Department of Internal Medicine at the Clinical Center. With the expanding capabilities of NGS technologies, they are increasingly providing diagnostic opportunities, and presenting these results plays a crucial role in similarly high-quality scientific events.

The participation of our colleagues at the congress not only highlighted the high-quality research conducted at the Hungarian Genomics and Bioinformatics Center but also demonstrated our commitment to advancing the field of human genetics and genomics. We are proud to have been part of this prestigious event and look forward to continuing our work in collaboration with other experts to improve diagnostic approaches and scientific understanding in genomics.
