Sequencing and microarray technologies are capable to produce large raw data sets within a very short time. In order to store and process these data traditional computing solutions are not suitable. High-performance computing (HPC) uses supercomputers and computer clusters to solve these advanced computation problems. Applications are designed to take advantage of the parallel nature of HPC computing systems thus ensuring a short turnaround time.
